Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and evaluate insurance applications, loan applications, or other financial documents to assess risk factors, financial stability, and eligibility for approval.
  • Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other supporting documents to verify information provided by applicants and assess creditworthiness.
  • Conduct risk analysis and assessment to determine appropriate premium rates, loan terms, or coverage levels based on underwriting guidelines and company policies.
  • Make underwriting decisions on applications, including approving, denying, or recommending modifications to mitigate risk and improve approval chances.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions and provide explanations, recommendations, and guidance to applicants, agents, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with underwriting teams, insurance agents, loan officers, and other departments to gather additional information, resolve issues, and ensure accuracy and completeness of underwriting decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices, and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and changes in underwriting guidelines and regulations, and incorporate new knowledge and insights into underwriting practices.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field. Additional certifications in underwriting or risk management are a plus.
  • Proven experience as an underwriter or in a related role, with knowledge of underwriting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess risk factors, analyze financial data, and make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and analyzing financial documents, contracts, and other underwriting materials.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex information and decisions to stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of underwriting software, financial analysis tools, and regulatory requirements related to insurance, lending, or other financial products.
  • Ethical and professional conduct, with a commitment to integrity, fairness, and transparency in underwriting decisions.
